Long range terahertz driven electron acceleration using phase shifters

چکیده

Terahertz radiation (THz)-based electron acceleration has the potential as a technology for driving next-generation, compact ultrafast and ultrabright x-ray sources. Dephasing is one of key problems that prevent long THz–electron interaction lengths in sub- to few-MeV range, where velocities vary significantly during high-field acceleration. Here, we present phase-shifter design with double vacuum channels alternate phase velocity effectively extends length THz-powered dielectrically loaded waveguides. The electrons are swept multiple-times back forth through accelerating THz wave undergo continuous along entire interaction. In addition, channel enables increases both group wave, which leads an adaptive synchronous extended length. This method paves way practical implementation devices high-energy

Terahertz-driven linear electron acceleration

The cost, size and availability of electron accelerators are dominated by the achievable accelerating gradient. Conventional high-brightness radio-frequency accelerating structures operate with 30-50 MeV m(-1) gradients. Electron accelerators driven with optical or infrared sources have demonstrated accelerating gradients orders of magnitude above that achievable with conventional radio-frequen...

Graphene/liquid crystal based terahertz phase shifters.

Due to its high electrical conductivity and excellent transmittance at terahertz frequencies, graphene is a promising candidate as transparent electrodes for terahertz devices. We demonstrate a liquid crystal based terahertz phase shifter with the graphene films as transparent electrodes. The maximum phase shift is 10.8 degree and the saturation voltage is 5 V with a 50 µm liquid crystal cell. ...

Toward a terahertz-driven electron gun

Femtosecond electron bunches with keV energies and eV energy spread are needed by condensed matter physicists to resolve state transitions in carbon nanotubes, molecular structures, organic salts, and charge density wave materials. These semirelativistic electron sources are not only of interest for ultrafast electron diffraction, but also for electron energy-loss spectroscopy and as a seed for...

microstrip arrays using simple integratedferrite phase shifters

A phase-steered microstrip antenna array is presented, suitable for application as a mobile vehicle satellite terminal. Phase shifters are implemented on a hybrid dielectric-ferrite substrate, and use is made of the phase transition near the cut-off region of the biased ferrite. Small permanent magnets and carefully biased ferrites remove the need for large applied electromagnetic fields. 2-, 3...

Long-range electron transfer.

Recent investigations have shed much light on the nuclear and electronic factors that control the rates of long-range electron tunneling through molecules in aqueous and organic glasses as well as through bonds in donor-bridge-acceptor complexes. Couplings through covalent and hydrogen bonds are much stronger than those across van der Waals gaps, and these differences in coupling between bonded...
